Holistic Massage

The term 'holistic' comes from the Greek word 'holos', meaning 'whole'. The holistic approach aims to restore balance within the body, taking into account the person's whole being, not just their physical symptoms or ailments. Holistic massage combines a therapeutic process of touch and response. Each treatment is adapted to the client's unique needs, physical characteristics and personality. How will you benefit? Holistic massage is a person-centred treatment guided by principles of sensitivity, awareness and quality of touch. This enables me to work with clients of any age: pregnant women, young and old, men and women. By applying these techniques and skills in an appropriate manner, massage speeds up the natural healing processes of the body, calming the mind and settling emotions. •Relieving tension and relaxing tight, sore muscles •Improving skin and muscle tone •Encouraging better circulation •Awareness of body and breathing to improve posture •Relieving stiff joints •Promoting relaxation, thus reducing the effects of stress and anxiety inducing a deeper sleep •Aiding digestion •Increasing energy by invigorating all the body's  systems, thereby reducing fatigue

Baby Massage

As a mother of 4, I know becoming a parent for the first time can be daunting (especially if multiples are involved!) and baby massage classes can

be really helpful with this on so many levels. You and your baby can both benefit from the actual massage, you can meet with others and share

from your experiences.  With very young babies, when interaction seems minimal, you and your baby can learn another way to spend valuable,

quality time getting to know each other. On this page you should find everything you need to know about my baby massage classes, but if there is

anything specific you'd like to know, please don't hesitate to contact me.

As a qualified baby massage instructor, trained by Hands on Babies (accredited by the Royal College of Midwives), I will be taking parents and care givers through specific strokes to enable them to use baby massage in their daily routine. Just as for adults, children benefit hugely from massage, right from birth onwards. It is really advantageous to include massage as part of the daily routine you have with your baby due to the many benefits for you both. Touch is vitally important to an infant as it starts long before they enter the world. It starts in the womb with the gentle sway motion from the mother's movement, with baby's comforting security of the pressure in the womb as it grows. Even birth plays a huge part of the importance of touch in the first day baby enters the world. So, why stop there? •Strengthens bonding and attachment •Stimulates all baby's major body systems, circulation, digestion, language development •Relaxation for parent/care giver and baby •Helps encourage longer sleeping •Helps relieve colic and touch sensitivity. •Can go some way to aid co-ordination and balance Where are the classes? The classes are based in a home environment, dedicated to the warmth and comfort your baby needs. I provide all the mats, oils and give a handout at the end of each class to help you remember what we covered in the class for practising at home. All you need to bring is a towel or blanket from home (familiar smells for baby) and anything baby might need, nappy change, spare clothes, anything for a feed, comforter, toy etc. The course runs for 5 weeks after which you will have learnt a full body baby massage routine and can then attend the drop in classes. If you find 4 friends to join you on the course, you get yours for free or split the reduced costs between you!

Pregnancy Massage

Falling pregnant is a time of great joy and excitement but also a time of great change. During pregnancy, your body goes through major physiological, psychological, spiritual and social changes. So it is really important to look after yourself and your growing baby or maybe babies! As a mother of four, having a singleton and a multiple pregnancy, I can sympathise with all you pregnant mums out there. Equally, I know how hard it is to find time for yourself, which is why I provide a service which can be in your home for your convenience, or in my home-based treatment room if you prefer to escape. I was fortunate to have positive pregnancy experiences, but I know for many this is not the case. So it is my aim to provide both a physical and emotion support service through this time of change. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, it is best to discuss your condition with your midwife or physician before seeking a treatment. What is Pregnancy Massage? Just like a holistic massage, the body during pregnancy is in need of relief and health promotion. It goes through many changes, which can produce physical discomfort and emotional challenges. Massage can ease these discomforts and help provide a feeling of relaxation and well being. It also allows that essential down time, which busy mums and mums-to-be need to help maintain a happy pregnancy. The main difference is your positioning on the couch for greater comfort and additional support. Some of the strokes and areas worked on are different, and the oil used is specifically safe during pregnancy. Pregnancy massage offers many benefits for mum and baby: •Slows down stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisol) •Stimulates the release of feel-good hormones, the body's natural painkillers (endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin and serotonin), making you feel relaxed, calm, balanced and recharged, this effect is also passed on to your baby •Relieves tension and relaxes tight, sore muscles like lower back, neck, calf cramps and joints •Improves skin and muscle tone and can help increase flexibility •Encourages better circulation, reducing swelling in hands, feet and ankles •Promotes relaxation, thus reducing the effects of stress and anxiety and inducing a deeper sleep, helping with insomnia •Aiding digestion •Increasing energy by invigorating all the body's systems, thereby reducing fatigue •Lessens sciatic pain •Increases oxygen in the blood, sometimes up to 10-15% after a massage, so delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the mother and baby •Strengthens the immune system •Can be used during the birth as well as after, making both experiences easier and more comfortable •Eases the stress mothers often feel after the birth.
